Santa Clara D8 Robusto

This is a mild looking cigar from the European market. It will be formally released in the US by Redland Cigar Company at a cut and light event On Fridsy, September 10. The cigar line is from the same factory in Costa Rica in the same factory that produces Atabey. They are touted as a “budget friendly” alternative. There are light sweet notes from the closed foot. The cold draw is slightly tight with light leather notes.


Initial flavors are light to medium bodied. There are some salty notes with the leather and light spices. The draw opens up very nicely. The ash is fairly solid and the burn is somewhat uneven to start.

Cavalier of Geneva Black USA Robusto

Cavalier of Geneva is well known for distribution of cigars in Europe. They also have a USA Exclusive line. The wrapper is smooth with the signature gold diamond stamp. The cold draw is perfect.


The initial flavor profile is medium bodied with earthy and some light citrusy notes. The retohale is smooth. The light grey ash looks solid at this point and the burn is even.

Cattle Baron LITTLE DOGIE

This is a small hand made cigar with a somewhat rustic wrapper. The cold draw is perfect and the mottled ash looks solid. Tonight’s beverage is a pour of Pampero Ron Extra Anjeo Reserva Ezxclusiva.


The initial flavor profile is mostly earth and leather. The retohale has black pepper notes and is just past smooth. The ash dropped into the ashtray and the burn is even. The rum is less sweet than other rums in its class, and pairs well with the cigar.

Mombacho Cosecha 2015

Mombacho’s Cosecha line is a yearly release with five years of age. The date stamp on the inside of the ring says May 2017, so the tobacco is aged before and after the cigar is rolled. This one was released in 2020, so it has an extra year from the humidor. The wrapper is mostly smooth with a little tooth. The cold draw is perfect. Tonight’s beverage is a Lone Pint Brewery Laser Kraken Rum Barrel Stout.


The initial flavors are medium bodied and smooth. The profile is a bit sweet with earthy undertones. The retohale is smooth with light white pepper notes. The ash looks solid and the burn is even.

Casa Cuevas Edicion Limitada Mandarria Habano

This looks to be a very well crafted cigar. The smooth Habano wrapper stops about 1/2” from the foot, which has rich aromas of earth and fruit. The cap sports a nice pigtail. The cold draw is perfect. Also, this one has at least two years of humidor time. Today’s beverage is a Yuengling Black & Tan.


The initial flavors are medium bodied and earthy/sweet, only tasting the binder and filler. The ash is mottled grey and the burn is uneven, as you would expect from just binder.
